She writes the popular Penny Pinching Retailer column, found monthly inside the back cover of Giftware News Magazine and is the author of A Shopkeeper’s Manual, a comprehensive and upbeat guide to running an independent business.
Dirk Lorenz

Dirk Lorenz began his retail career as owner of Fremont Flowers and Gifts in 1983 at the age of 23. Over his 37 years as a retail florist, Dirk has grown the business to be a Top 100 FTD florist nationwide. Dirk has opened 10 distinctively different retail floral shops. Building on his retail experiences, Dirk maintains that retailing today must involve a memorable shopping environment to driving customers to brick and mortar stores in addition to providing excellent quality and personal services. Dirk was one of the “core four” retail florists who started Florists for Change….now known as Real Local Florists. This nationwide association of brick and mortar florists have branded themselves as the “go to” local retail flower shop. Dirk is past President of the Fremont Chamber of Commerce and is currently the President of the Niles Fremont Rotary Club. He is the Chairperson of the Fremont Festival of the Arts, the nation’s largest two day outdoor festival west of the Mississippi.
